Bob Winkler Bio
Bob Winkler is an artist, currently living in Westchester, New York. Born in New York City in 1939, he attended The High School of Music & Art and Columbia University. with a background in theater arts, he became a scenic artist in 1964 at the Metropolitan Opera, moving with the company to its new location at Lincoln Center in 1966. Bob retired in 2009 after 45 years with the Opera.
In that span he has worked on numerous productions, specializing in projection-based scenery. Working with heat resistant laquers and 8 inch glass plates, Bob's skyscapes and landscapes are projected on an 80 foot cyclorama screen, curved to provide the illusion of depth and distance. His own proprietary methods of dovetailing and skew effects provided a seamless transition between varied projection points, resulting in a smooth, natural appearance.
Not limited to the large canvas of the stage, Bob has worked in various media as his side "hobby", with nature and naturally occuring abstracts as his subject matter. His travels and love of gardening and orchids play heavily in his subject matter.
